In 2002, the idea to establish an association for Ewes living in the Greater Denver Metropolitan area and Colorado originated from Derick Glymin. After discussing the concept with Esther Winfred-Kporha, she shared it with Cornelius Ackumey. Together, they reached out to other Ewes they knew in the region.
The primary purpose of this association was to unite all Ewes from Eweland residing in the Greater Denver Metropolitan area and Colorado at large. Additionally, it aimed to promote a sense of unity among descendants of Eweland and those who cherished Ewe heritage. Another essential objective was to assist in the development of their homeland, the four Eweland countries: Ghana🇬🇭, Togo🇹🇬, Benin🇧🇯, and Nigeria🇳🇬.
A significant milestone occurred during a meeting at the residence of Esther and Chris Wotortsi on the last Sunday of June 2002, where all attendees unanimously agreed to establish the association. Subsequently, the first official gathering took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius and Laura Ackumey on the last Sunday of July, followed by the second meeting at the same location in August 2002. From then on, the association decided to hold its regular monthly meetings on the last Sunday of each month.
As the association grew, its meetings were hosted at various members’ homes, starting with the late Harrison Amartey’s residence and later Civinius Dameilda’s, among others. Eventually, they diversified the meeting locations to accommodate the expanding membership.
